My Story

I have had the good fortune of spending the past decade in an amazing role. Working as an event manager for elite-level sporting events (curling specifically) has taught me a lot. Organization, taking action, and problem-solving have been skills I have sharpened daily in my role. I have also been exposed to high-performance athletes chasing their Olympic dreams, and I got to see firsthand what level of commitment it takes to make your dreams a reality in this world.

I always felt so inspired by these athletes who made significant sacrifices and were incredibly disciplined to reach the pinnacle of their careers.

Over ten years in my role, I became so interested in team dynamics and the notion that in a team sport, you are made up of individuals who lead entirely different lives and, outside of that sport, have other challenges and priorities. How could you support the individuals in a way that they feel so confident in their personal lives that they can show up and be the best version of themselves and perform to the best of their abilities? As I continued to think along those lines, it also struck me that it is not very different from a business setting. If you support the individual and their unique needs, will you not also help them become more efficient and effective in anything else they do?

I registered for a Coaching 101 program on maternity leave to introduce myself to the concepts. I hilariously thought you would have much spare time on mat leave - I was very wrong. Inevitably I didn’t complete that course because I was busy watching Cocomelon, but I hoped I would have the opportunity in the future. During the downtime in live events, due to the worId shutting down, I decided I wanted to challenge myself and enrolled in an Executive Life Coaching Certification program. I have always been someone that people close to me came to for advice or as a sounding board, and I don’t think I picked up on that and the impact it had on some of these decisions until recently. That realization, in addition to my sports event background, really drove me to coach - and when I began in the coaching space, I then realized a coach doesn’t give advice at all, haha, but I was there and, regardless, was game for a journey in personal growth.

Once I began the certification course and started taking clients, I felt aligned in a way that I didn’t know was possible. I connected with people and empowered them to see the best in themselves and their accomplishments, a perspective I have always come by naturally. I was motivated by my clients, and grateful I was able to have an impact.

Several years into my coaching practice, I honestly feel grateful every day that people trust me to facilitate coaching sessions and that they’re willing to be vulnerable in the process. It is always easier to place blame outside yourself, but in coaching, I want to help people take all of their power back. You get to make the decisions and design the life you want. It’s not always easy to overcome the beliefs that have held you back in the past, but nothing worth it is ever easy.

Every move you make is in your hands. Your perspective and the way you feel are always ultimately up to you. Coaching allows you to see that and take action toward a life or business that you’ve dreamed of.
